Sorry to hear that the smoke alarm is not working properly and is malfunctioning.

We can well imagine that this was a bit of a shock, we apologise for this.

Together we are happy to look at how best to solve this.

In this case, it is an optical smoke detector, under the hood there are 2 optical sensors that are in contact with each other.

If the view between the sensors is disturbed, for example by smoke, the smoke detector goes into alarm.

In the event of a (false) alarm from an optical smoke detector, you can do the following:

  1. Ventilation: Open windows and doors to remove any dust, smoke or fumes.
  2. Check the detector: Remove the smoke detector from the ceiling and check for dust, insects or dirt in the sensor. Carefully clean the detector with a hoover or soft brush. Also watch the following video for this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suYMTDUSDNk&ab_channel=Brandpreventiewinkel
  3. Test the detector: Replace the smoke detector and test it with the test button to make sure the alarm is working properly.

If the problem persists, the smoke detector should be replaced.

Did the smoke detector break down outside the 2-year statutory warranty and are you entitled to additional manufacturer's warranty?

To claim the additional manufacturer's warranty, a proof of purchase/invoice is mandatory, as this is your warranty certificate. A proof of purchase is required to claim the manufacturer's warranty. We cannot help you without proof of guarantee.

  • Do you have your proof of purchase and does your product fall within the additional warranty period? Then you can register the product for warranty via the repair page. In most cases, we will help you quickly with an exchange for a new smoke detector.
  • Was your smoke detector purchased directly from our website www.alectohome.nl and have you lost your proof of purchase? Please let us know the address where the order was placed, we can look up your proof of purchase and help you further.
  • Was your smoke alarm purchased elsewhere and have you lost your proof of purchase? If so, check with your retailer whether your purchase receipt can still be retrieved. At some shops, customer cards are used to store purchase receipts for long periods of time.
  • You do not have proof of purchase and cannot be traced via the shop of purchase? Unfortunately, a claim to the manufacturer's warranty is then excluded. We will be happy to advise you on purchasing a new smoke detector.

Has the smoke detector failed outside the 2-year statutory warranty and the additional manufacturer's warranty has also expired?

Then it is time to replace the smoke detector. We are happy to support with advice to choose a new smoke detector.
