The BSP-70 has an auto-off switch built in that turns off the speaker after about 8 minutes of silence. 

This works fine as long as the batteries (6x1.5V AA) are full. However, as soon as the battery voltage drops below 6.5V, the red battery-low LED lights up, but in order to save battery power, this auto-off circuit no longer works.
