When you want to switch off the smoke detector you need to push the red pin that came with the smoke detector back into the smoke detector. The images below illustrate how the smoke detector is switched on and when it is switched off.

This way, the smoke detector is switched on and the mounting plate can be fitted so that the red pin is preserved. This is important to switch off the smoke detector in the future if necessary.

When the red pin is inserted back into the smoke detector as shown in the image below, the smoke detector is switched off.
